Tennishu is a multi-instrumentalist, rapper, producer, and composer whose work exists at the intersection of jazz, hip-hop, soul, and contemporary improvisation. Guided by a deep respect for musical tradition and an equally strong desire to push beyond it, he has built a body of work defined by expressive musicianship, thoughtful storytelling, and fearless experimentation.

Raised in Richmond, Virginia, Tennishu developed his voice through the city’s thriving community of freelance musicians and the creative ecosystem surrounding Virginia Commonwealth University. Those experiences cultivated a collaborative spirit and a broad musical vocabulary that continue to shape his work today. Whether performing straight-ahead jazz, producing sample-based records, writing lyrics, or composing original music, he approaches every project with the same commitment to authenticity, curiosity, and craft.

Since joining Butcher Brown in 2017 as saxophonist, trumpeter, and MC, Tennishu has helped shape the band’s genre-defying sound while performing for audiences across the United States and around the world. His melodic approach, improvisational voice, and willingness to move effortlessly between roles have made him an integral part of one of contemporary music’s most adventurous ensembles.

Alongside his work with Butcher Brown, Tennishu has established himself as a singular solo artist. His releases—including More To The Story, More Of The Story, and the forthcoming American Bullshit—reflect an artist equally comfortable behind the microphone, behind the mixing console, and behind the horn. Writing, producing, arranging, and performing much of his own material, he creates immersive musical worlds where live instrumentation, lyricism, and modern production coexist naturally.
